Superstar Vanessa Williams Headline Luncheon

V.-WilliamsHARTFORD – The Amistad Center for Art & Culture announces Superstar Vanessa Williams and her mother, Helen Williams, will headline the Phenomenal Woman Luncheon, the first of three final events celebrating The Amistad Center’s 25th anniversary this year.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, The Amistad Center will host the Phenomenal Woman Luncheon, with National Best-Selling Authors Vanessa Williams and Helen Williams who co-authored the book “You Have No Idea.” The event will also recognize the Connecticut Chapters of The Links, Inc., for their contributions to our communities and culture. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. and be held at The Hilton Hartford Hotel. Tickets are on sale NOW.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, is The Celebration of Art & Culture, The Amistad Center’s fall gala benefit featuring the legendary and award winning perfomer , Leslie Uggums, in what’s dubbed as “Harlem Meets Hartford:” An Uptown Downtown Experience. Festivities will be held at The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art for this evening event. Guests can also view the opening of the second anniversary exhibition, Contemporary Memories: Selections from the Collection of The Amistad Center for Art & Culture, which will run through April 14, 2013.
The Amistad Center’s final event of the year is the Annual Meeting, scheduled for Monday, Nov. 5, 6 p.m., at The Wadsworth Atheneum. The event is free and open to the public. A Member Appreciation reception follows the meeting. For details on these events, call 860.838.4133.

According to Executive Director Olivia S. White, “Our Silver Celebration activities so far this year have been so meaningful and successful. These three events will be fabulous and wrap up the year of celebration beautifully.”

The Silver Celebration Committee Co-Chairs are Sanford Cloud, Jr., Esq., and Dr. Diane B. Cloud. NBC Connecticut is a Founding Silver Celebration Sponsor of The Amistad Center’s 25th anniversary.
