David B. Fein, 49, of Old Greenwich, was sworn in as the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut by the Honorable José A. Cabranes, United States Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, in New Haven. President Barack Obama nominated Mr. Fein to serve as United States Attorney on February 4, 2010, and the United States Senate confirmed his nomination on May 5, 2010.

Mr. Fein has been a partner at the law firm of Wiggin and Dana since 1997. From 1995 to 1996, Mr. Fein served as an Associate White House Counsel to President William Jefferson Clinton. From 1989 to 1995, he was as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, serving as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division from 1993 to 1994 and Counsel to the United States Attorney from 1994 to 1995. From 1986 to 1989, Mr. Fein was an associate at Debevoise and Plimpton, and he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Frank M. Coffin of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit from 1985 to 1986.

Mr. Fein graduated from Dartmouth College in 1982 and the New York University School of Law in 1985. The United States Attorney’s Office is charged with enforcing federal criminal laws in Connecticut, and with representing the federal government in civil litigation in the District. As United States Attorney, Mr. Fein will supervise a staff of more than 60 Assistant United States Attorneys and approximately 55 staff members at offices in New Haven, Hartford and Bridgeport.

Mr. Fein is the 50th United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, an office that was established in 1789. Nora R. Dannehy, who has been serving as the United States Attorney since April 4, 2008, will resume serving as the Deputy United States Attorney.
