UPDATE: Hartford Police Officer Shot

HARTFORD — On Saturday, July 10, 2010, the Hartford Police Department received information regarding a person in possession of a firearm in the area of Mather Street. Uniformed officers responded and located a person matching the description provided. When the officers attempted to stop the suspect, he fled into the rear 158 Mather Street. During the foot pursuit, the suspected produced a firearm and fired at the officers striking one police officer. Police name suspect. See Full Story! UPDATE: Shot Officer ID'ed HARTFORD — The Hartford Police Department confirms the identity of the Police Officer shot and injured during the early morning hours of Saturday, July 10, 2010, as Officer David Ragion. Officer Ragion is a six year veteran of the Hartford Police Department and is currently assigned to the Northeast Conditions Team. Officer Ragion was treated and released from St. Francis Hospital and continues to recover from his injuries at home. Neighbors Run For Life-Fire Destroys Apt.

Hartford - (July 9, 2010/5AM) - Morning fire gave fire fighters a tough time. The fire started at 5 AM AT 33 Evergreen ST., off Farmington Ave. No injuries reported, but many fire fighters were checked for safety reason. The fire caused Hartford to call for municipal aid from area towns, to back up Hartford fire and to cover the city for calls. The roof has collapsed.

Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez Found Guilty of 5 Counts of Bribery

Hartford - After two years of vehemently denying any wrongdoing and defiantly vowing a court of law would prove his innocence, former Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez lost his fight Thursday after a jury found him guilty of five felony charges, including bribery and extortion. Hours after the verdict, Perez spokeswoman Sarah Barr issued a written statement saying “As a flurry of calls, questions and requests come in this is moment of pause. Mayor Perez, his family and his attorneys will make statements as they digest the verdict and explore their options.” Perez has continued to proclaim his innocence and his lawyers plan to appeal the verdict. But on Monday, Perez officially relinquished his duties as mayor saying “It has been a great honor and privilege to serve the people of this great city as mayor.” See Full Story!

CAPTURED - Windsor Police Search for Robbery Suspects

Windsor, CT – (June 17, 2010/ 1PM) – Around 10am, residents of the Pallisado Drive area, notice a white van park in the neighborhood. Residents reported that 2 middle age white males were taking items out of a house in the neighborhood. “ Ten AM today. We got a 911 call that there was suspicious activity going on and men were stealing from a house. Windsor police got the description and notice the vehicle traveling south on RT 159. Officers follow the white van, which had stolen CT., Plates entering I-291 EAST. Police continued to follow while back up was en-route. Windsor officers notice the van was pulling over on the side of the highway just prior to exit 4, South Windsor/East Hartford line. The suspects than ran out of the van and down the side of the highway, into the woods along the CT river. See Full Story!

Hartford Crash Results in 3 Dead. See Victims

Hartford – ( Posted May 17, 2010 6am) - Early morning crash results in 3 dead and 1 in critical condition. Around 4 am Monday morning, 4 people in a Nissan sedan crashed into a tree at 236 Tower Ave, between Barbour ST and Hampton ST. The car looked to be traveling west on Tower Ave. It’s at the top of the hill on Tower Ave. The car was total, wrapped around a tree and totally cut in half. " This car is totally totaled and it’s a wonder how the 4th person is still alive, when this accident occurred. Crime scene investigators are on scene, said Sgt Miller, with Hartford PD. Kids Injured in Bus Accident in Hartford

Hartford – Several kids were injured today in Hartford. The bus was traveling north on Main ST in Hartford near corner of Tower Ave. The bus which had 13 students was just coming from a school on Tower Ave. The bus crashed into a Honda accord where the driver was taken to the hospital. “Most of the students were taken to area hospitals, complaining of neck and back pains. The parents were immediately notified and reunited with their kids, said Hartford’s Mayor Eddie Perez.” The accident happened around 5pm, in rush hour traffic. Main Street was closed for about an hour.

St. Francis Hospital Names Institute in Honor of Black Businessman The Saint Francis Foundation and Saint Francis Hospital honored local business entrepreneur Curtis D. Robinson by naming the new Men’s Health Institute, at the Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Curtis D. Robinson Men’s Health Institute at a reception today in his honor on Wednesday, at the Hospital. Curtis D. Robinson, the President and CEO of C&R Development Company, a Saint Francis Hospital Board member and prostate cancer survivor, approached the Dr. Jeffrey Steinberg, Chief of Surgery at the hospital with the idea to form the Men’s Health Institute. In naming the Institute, Lynn Rossini, Director of Giving and Stewardship stated, on behalf of the Foundation that “Curtis Robinson’s time and effort as an advocate for prostate cancer awareness was instrumental in the creation of this program. Hartford Police Officer Rhashim Campbell, (05/16/79) was arrested today after an internal investigation into his assault of a prisoner in Hartford Police custody on November 1, 2009. Former Hartford Cop Found Not Guilty in Jayshon Bryant Shooting

Hartford (WTNH) - A SWAT team has been called to Hartford Superior Court as racial tensions run high following the acquittal of a white police officer in the shooting death of an unarmed black teenager. Robert Lawlor, who is now retired from the Hartford Police Department, was found not guilty on a manslaughter charge in the death of Jayshon Bryant. Lawlor was working with a federal agent on an anti-gun task force back in 2005 when the shooting happened. See Full Story!

Hartford City Hall Area Evac for Bomb Package Search

Hartford – (11-12-09) - At the beginning of Thursday rush hour. A suspicious package was reported and the bomb squad responded. The incident commander with the HPD was on scene, at Hartford City Hall, 550 Main Street. The 4 3 blocks surrounding City Hall was blocked off to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Some people were evacuated. As of 5pm the area was declared “all clear”. Hartford PD Bomb units continue to investigate. "We found that someone put a package in the mail box in front of City Hall and that package contained a cell phone, where someone forgot to remove the card in the phone or did not properly shut the phone down. It was reported to a City Hall Police officer, who call in the event, said Hartford Police Chief Roberts".

Hartford Cop Shot

(Hartford) – (Inqnews) - On November 11, 2009 at 0041 hours, patrol officers attempted to conduct a citizen contact with Dwayne Powell 1/25/1983 of 826 Tower Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut. Powell fled from the officers who immediately started to chase him. One of the officers became involved in a struggle and Powell produced a gun and shot the officer two times. The officer was struck once in the leg and once in the arm. Powell fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by assisting officers. The injured officer was transported to Saint Francis Hospital for treatment and is listed in stable condition. Powell was placed under arrest and charged accordingly. Hartford - Jamaican sprinter and three-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt recently visited Hartford where he playfully struck his signature “lightning bolt” pose for screaming fans, signed a few autographs and accepted a couple plaques. The 23-year-old Olympic and world 100-and 200-meter champion was a guest of members of the Sportsmen Athletic Club where nearly six hundred fellow Jamaicans crammed the Main Street club hoping to catch a glimpse of their hero nicknamed “Lightning Bolt.” The world’s fastest man arrived in a stretch limousine last Monday night and quickly darted into a guarded backroom for dinner with a select few club members. Two Local Men Shot During Drive-by Shooting Bloomfield, CT - (9/16/09) - Bloomfield Police responded to multiple 911 calls of shots fired in the 90 block of Boothbay Street around 8:00 P.M. Responding units located two local males; one of which sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and the other having indications that a bullet passed through loose material in his pants. Hartford - Hartford’s Police Chief Roberts and Mayor Perez presented to media, its new mobile command post. At a cost of more than 600K. The command post is the 1st unit for Hartford. "It will service Hartford as well as the region. We put it to the test for 2 recent events. The South Windsor hostage stand-off and the West Indian Parade. This mobile unit served well at the parade, because we discovered a person with a firearm and made an arrest that day, said Police chief Daryl Roberts. "This is a wonderful new asset for Hartford and the police department. At a cost of 600+K. The money was approved and was a result of a city budget from 2 years ago, said Mayor Perez. Morning Fires Displace Families

Hartford - (June 26, 2010/8AM) - Hartford fire dispatch received reports of active fires around the same time, Saturday morning. “ 7:30 am we got a call that the 6 family apt building at 5 Putnam Heights was on fire. Upon arrival we saw smoke coming from the roof of the structure. We called for a 2nd alarm and broke this fire down fast. It looks to have started in the rear of the building. Six adults and 2 children are now displaced and being helped by the Red Cross, said Hartford Capt., Tom Zangary.” As that fire call came in, there was another major fire at 170 Campfield ST. Families were display there as well. One firefighter was taken to the hospital from Putnam Heights, for minor injuries. No one else was injured in both fires.
